Description

The Greater New Haven African American Historical Society promotes a greater understanding of African American heritage and culture through the collection, preservation, display, and presentation of historical and cultural materials relating to peoples of African descent. The Society serves as an advocate for those programs and initiatives that support a better understanding of the history of African Americans in the greater New Haven area.

The Society makes selected archival resource materials accessible to the greater New Haven community. These materials consist of written and transcribed oral life histories, church histories, genealogical records, published and unpublished works, pictures and other memorabilia, artifacts, and items of public interest pertinent to people of African descent.
